  • Win A Free Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch but do not want to throw your hard earned money at what could become another Wii U? Fear not my friends, we have found a contest whereby you could win a free Nintendo Switch!

A Little Nintendo Switch Info First

Before we get into the free Nintendo Switch contest, we wanted to provide you with some information about the Nintendo Switch. While not a whole lot is known thus far, we can tell you what Nintendo has provided up to this writing. On October 20th, 2016, in a press release, Nintendo introduced the world to the Nintendo Switch. What was previously code named the NX, finally had some real details to those who anticipated the new next-gen console.

While the NX rumors were mostly affirmed by the press release that Nintendo was working on a hybrid console that would also be portable, I think Nintendo blew most of us away with the introduction to the switch video. When we were introduced to the Wii U, we thought how cool, a system that we could play on a TV and also take with us to other rooms of the house. The concept was cool, but it was flawed in actual use for many people and the Wii U has been considered a failure. The fact that Nintendo is not even producing the Wii U anymore should be a sign of just how bad that system was.

The Nintendo Switch is going to be the system that determines the fate of Nintendo. If this system does as well as most of us hope it will, Nintendo should be around as both a software developer and a hardware company for years to come. If however, the system falls short, Nintendo will probably need to reevaluate its position as a hardware company and go the route of Sega and release their intellectual property to other companies hardware.

What We Know About The Nintendo Switch

Sadly, not a whole lot is known as of this writing. Nintendo's earlier press release teased at a few things and gave us a quick demo video of the Nintendo Switch which was just enough to get our mouths watering and generate a ton of questions. Topics such as actual release date, cost, accessories, and launch titles were pretty much left in the dark. What we do know is that the system should launch sometime in March of 2017; however, this was pretty much stated before the official name was released by Nintendo.

We know that the Nintendo Switch is going to be the first ever portable and home use gaming console ever developed. The system appears to come with a docking type station which you would connect to your television for gaming at home. When you want to take your gaming with you, just undock the unit and slide in your Joy-Con controllers into the side of the Nintendo Switch unit and you are off to the races, playing the same game you were able to play on your television. In terms of multi-player, it appears that two people can play on the same Nintendo Switch when it is being used as a portable device, and multiple Nintendo Switches can be synced up for four players or possibly more.

The Nintendo Switch looks to be going back to the roots of the Nintendo DS and Gameboy using classic cartridge type media for the games. While this seems a bit strange having all of the latest next-gen consoles using optical based media, it makes sense for the portability of the unit. Optical media work great for devices that constantly have power and are not being moved around a lot. Since this new Nintendo Switch console is meant to be portable, Nintendo had to figure out the best means to get the most battery life and least issue with moving a console around. With the way flash based media has improved and become much more cheaper over the years, I don't think this is going to be a huge issue for consumers. So long as game play and cut scenes are not sacrificed by switching to this form of media we should all be pretty happy with the change.

Nintendo has confirmed that is has signed 48 developers to be on board for creating content for the Nintendo Switch. One of the main reasons the Wii U failed was due to the poor lineup of partners creating content. With 48 companies on board, the Nintendo Switch stands a good shot at having popular titles which should improve sales. Big name companies such as EA, Activision, Capcom, and Bethesda are on board for creating the best content they can for this next-gen system.

In terms of games, we do not have much official information. In the video Nintendo released introducing us to the Nintendo Switch, we can see actors playing Splatoon, Mario Kart, Zelda, and NBA game, and a new Mario game. So long as the launch titles have a good lineup, I think the Nintendo Switch will be a smashing success.
